The Program The San Miguel Poetry Week is a small, intimate program that provides a beautiful environment for work and vacation. This year's faculty includes Jennifer Clement, Kirsty Gunn, Christopher Merrill, Tomaz Salamun and Robert Wrigley. The 2011 winner of the W.D. Snodgrass Fellowship was poet Phillip Alvare. This year's winner will be selected from the 2011 applicants and will be announced November 30, 2011. The fellowship grants a full tuition scholarship to the winner. The San Miguel Poetry Week is designed so that participants take classes, go to readings, work on new poems and enjoy time to explore San Miguel de Allende. The week begins Sunday night, January1st, with a welcome cocktail at the Hotel Posada de Las Monjas. The first day begins with a writing exercise class dedicated to creating new work. Mornings consist of small workshops. In the evenings poetry readings by the faculty will be held at Bellas Artes, San Miguel's stunning Fine Arts Institute or the Colonial Teatro Santa Ana at the Biblioteca. On Friday, the last night of the program, there will be a group poetry reading by all the participants. An additional optional workshop is available this year: Creative Writing Workshop focusing on the crafting of a new work will be conducted by Jennifer Clement. These sessions are available to participants at an additional cost of $50.00 per workshop.
